We are EXTREMELY excited to announce that we will be performing a free concert with the 40 piece Canberra Symphony Orchestra for ‘Symphony In The Park’, as part of the Enlighten Festival.

Held at the open air Stage 88 in Commonwealth Park, there will be great food and beverage options available on the night so all you need to do is gather a group, bring a chair or picnic rug and get ready for a night of amazing music.

Ever since we played with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in 2021, we’ve been dying to once again perform our music with Ross Irwin’s incredible arrangements (who is of course also the longtime Boos trumpeter!). For a reminder of what that sounded like, you can revisit the recording of the MSO show on LP/CD or streaming.

TOUR POSTPONED

Really excited to drop the first video from The Ferguson Rogers Process, Lance’s new project with one Tim Rogers. Utilising footage taken from their electric debut live performance at The Night Cat in Melbourne earlier this year, “Who Dares Wins” has been one of our favourite tracks on the album. Tim’s lyrics urge all of us to quit hesitating and take more chances in our lives and to remember that the world belongs to the brave (“jump first, jump long”) and lessons will be learned no matter what happens. “Lesson begins as each door swings, somethin is lost as you wait.”  

The album will now be released on Nov 29 on three different coloured vinyl variants as well as on CD and cassette. Pre-order it at the FRP site.

Due to unforeseen circumstances the album launch tour has had to be postponed to 2025. We’ll be back with the new dates as soon as they are locked!

So happy to announce the release of the new double single featuring our great and longtime Bamboos family friend Bobby Flynn! Bobby is a one-of-a-kind performer who we first worked with back in 2012 on the Medicine Man album (“Midnight”), over the years he has been a welcome guest on and off stage at many of our live shows - in fact he killed it at The Meters Live Tribute recently at The Night Cat.

So here are two new songs to brighten up your week, “Lucky” and “Open Up My Heart”. Grab them wherever you listen to your music and turn them up LOUD!

The first music released by the FRP is “Live Together” is out now. Tim weaves a detailed paean for patience and acceptance within Lance’s airy but insistent groove. Stay tuned for more new music on the way.

As to how this all came about, Tim recalls that Lance gave him a call while he was driving down the highway and asked him “wanna make a dance record?”

“Mr Ferguson could ask me to commit self-immolation and I’d consider it! The ten songs he sent had deep pockets and endless possibilities. Working with the Bamboos was such an enormous thrill and a life-threatening joy. These 10 songs are primarily for dancing, which is my second favourite life activity. And perhaps there is some lyrical bawdiness to tickle a bone. Come taste the Process.”

Reggie has no doubt been into and around music all of his life - influenced by many great musicians through the years, but mainly of course by the veritable force of nature that is his loving mother. Perhaps it was inevitable that he would end up refining his skills as a singer, drummer, songwriter, producer and entertainer at such a young age. Beyond music we have watched him grow up into a truly wonderful and warm-hearted human being, generous of spirit and full of life.

We always look forward to seeing Reggie dancing in the front row at one of our shows, but now it’s time for him to join us on the stage.

OCTOBER RESIDENCY AT NIGHT CAT MELBOURNE

We’re taking it to the stage for a series of special shows every Thursday in October at The Night Cat in Fitzroy.

Each night will be a different set list and theme - we’ll be diving into deep cuts from our ten albums, plus we’ll be debuting our all-new 11-piece line up, with a brand new backing vocal section in the mix!

Oct 5 is all about “The Breaks”…Hip Hop just celebrated it’s 50th Birthday, so in honour of this milestone we’ll kick off the residency with some uptempo beat-heavy business aimed squarely at the Night Cat dancefloor. We’ll let you know each week’s theme the Friday before so hold tight.

The Night Cat holds a special place in The Bamboos history, as we played our first ever shows there back in 2000. Lance recalls: “I had the idea to put a band together that was inspired by a more stripped-back, raw approach to Funk. At the same time (Melbourne Music legend) Henry Maas approached me for a season of gigs at his venue The Night Cat, and so The Bamboos were born...I always call it our spiritual home”.

BAMBOOS & MSO ALBUM OUT DEC 2 ON COLOURED VINYL

Back in February 2021 we had the massive honour to play two nights at Hamer Hall with The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Over 50 people were on stage and it was something that truly felt like a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Melbournians had just emerged from the city's first major lockdown, the gift of seeing and playing live music again seemed to carry extra weight for everyone in the room. Our saxophonist Damon Grant was making his return to the stage for the first time after defeating a life-threatening illness. We had also recently learned the sad news of the passing of our musical brothers Pierre Baroni and Dion Hirini. All of the raw emotion in the room, along with the incredible arrangements from our very own Ross Irwin, galvanised the band and the audience to make these shows count.
We are so happy to announce the Live At Hamer Hall album.

The LP is released on Dec 2nd on Ltd Ed Turquoise Vinyl with CD/DIG out Feb 3rd.

LANCE FERGUSON’S RARE GROOVE SPECTRUM VOL. 2 OUT NOW!

Following on from the beloved first volume released in 2019, Rare Groove Spectrum Vol.2 is another collection of re-works and re-imaginings traversing jazz funk rarities, balearic digs, latin groovers from the likes of Carly Simon through to Mongo Santamaria, Marcos Valle, Kool & The Gang and Pat Metheny. Backed by a stellar group of Melbourne musicians including members of The Bamboos & Menagerie, the album continues the tradition of creating "live re-edits" - all pulled off with an inimitable style and playfulness, though always with an obvious love for the foundations.

As Lance says: "Some of these versions can almost be looked at as DJ re-edits, sometimes we're extending what may be a really short track into something longer, or teasing out the elements in a song that really make it work on a dance-floor. It's essentially what someone does with a club re-edit, except we went the extra step and re-recorded the whole thing with a live band"

The last two of the six unreleased tracks are out today, completing the Deluxe Edition of our 10th studio album, Hard Up.

Instrumentals “Wishbone” and “The Raft” featuring the amazing Kumar Shome on sitar complete the set of tracks from The Lancefield Sessions, recorded during the Hard Up sessions.

We are beyond excited to be included in the final line up announcement for one of the world’s great music festivals - Byron Bay Bluesfest. "I GOT BURNED" STRINGS VERSION VIDEO FEAT. TIM ROGERS

Here’s the strings version of ‘I Got Burned’, featuring the hardest working bon vivant in the business: Mr Tim Rogers. We had plans to set up a full orchestra on location in a Louisiana swamp, with CGI vampires in a Hammer Horror gothic mansion, unfurling Spielberg storm clouds, torch-lights, bats and a bonfire - but we changed our minds at the last minute and decided to set up in a Church in Carlton.
We can also now reveal that Mr Rogers will be the third guest at the album launch at Melbourne Recital Centre Aug 15.
